A STUDY TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF PARTICIPATION AND FACTORS AFFECTING PARTICIPATION IN SELECTED SUPPORTIVE ACTIVITIES RELATED TO CHILDREARING AMONG FATHERS RESIDING IN SELECTED URBAN AREAS OF MOHALI, PUNJAB

Introduction : Role of parents in upbringing of children is crucial in forming a child's future. In the present
generation of increasing nuclear families, father's role in child rearing becomes even more important in deciding
the future of a child.
Material & Method : A non-experimental descriptive design was used. Study was conducted in selected urban
areas of Mohali Punjab. 150 fathers were selected by using Non-probability convenient sampling technique.
Result: The finding of the present study showed thatout of the total subjects, 43% of fathers were having minimal
level of participation while 41% were having partial level of participation Whereas, only 15% were having
maximal level of participation in selected supportive activities related to childrearing. There were some factors
which affected the level of participation.
Conclusion: The overall findings of the study revealed that though most of the fathers had minimal level of
participation in selected supportive activities related to childrearing. There were some factors which affected the
level of participation.
